This workshop is designed for
experienced poets who wish to pursue alternatives to free verse by employing a
contemporary approach to traditional prosody. The emphasis will be on the use of iambic meter,
with some attention to accentual and syllabic versification, as well as
methods of utilizing rhyme. Examples will be taken from modern works of
poetry, ranging from Robert Frost to the so-called
“New” Formalists.
