Your Game
If you and I were playing chess,
I know that I would lose.
I wouldn’t have any way to guess
what strategy you’d choose.
I also would not play to win.
I’d be content to gaze
at how you lightly moved your men
in unexpected ways.
I’d marvel at your subtle skill
combined with devious grace;
at how you’d move in for the kill
when all else was in place.
Oh, I would lose my King for sure,
then suffer all the cost,
just like the many times before
I played your game and lost.
