William Conelly enlisted in the Air Force before determining his potential as a writer was greater than as a pilot or engineer. He resigned subsequently, and took both BA and MA Degrees at UC Santa Barbara under the distinguished American poet Edgar Bowers. A post-grad meander through transport and financial services, sales and commercial writing, and Conelly returned to academia, serving in both America and the UK as an associate professor, tutor and seminar leader in English studies. With three sons grown, and dual citizenship, he and his wife now reside primarily in the West Midlands town of Warwick. Uncontested Grounds—an assortment of his prosody dating back four decades—remains available from the Able Muse Press.
