from June
Silver
Beside the road I took, another road
Winds under trees that never grow
Across the long, low hills of Pennsylvania:
Eucalyptus, date palm, casuarina.
The absent sea falls underneath the moon.
Beside a grove of olive trees
The lost wind silvers, cypresses that bend
And lean into the sun, another road
Climbs up a hill behind the distant river,
Turns under a sheaf of roofs, and disappears.
