          Ante un cuadro
          de Marc Rothko

Marc Rothko sabe ver
las cosas como son:
un resplandor sin cuerpo,
vivo color al borde
de las sombras.
Coge el pincel y deja
que arda el rojo,
pinte de azul el aire,
crezca el verde y el ocre
se remanse,
que funda el blanco todos
los colores
o que el negro los niegue.
Pintura evanescente,
puro espíritu,
espejo del vacío,
donde me reconozco.
Tener conciencia clara
de que nada en la nada
se sostiene
hace más deslumbrante
esta belleza.

           Juan van der Hamen

Los brillos del cristal.
El mortal resplandor
que emana de las flores.
Unas simples cerezas
y humildes alcachofas.
Aspiras los aromas.
Oyes la melodía,
más allá de la música.
Sabes qué representan
las figuras,
pero no la razón
del resplandor.
Y expresas tu emoción
con la palabra,
siempre tan engañosa.

        Ante un cuadro de
        Jordi Pallarés

La misma luz que enciende
amarillos de un sol
que nunca ha de apagarse
ilumina tus negros,
que revelan
que allí donde no hay nada,
todo brilla.
Tus rojos nos espantan,
porque podemos vernos
abiertos en canal
sobre tus lienzos,
después del sacrificio.
Cuadros como los tuyos
pueden hacer temblar
a quien no sabe
que pintar es sentir
el duro escalofrío
de la pura belleza.

 

José Corredor-Matheos

José Corredor-Matheos (b. 1929) graduated with a degree in law, but never practiced, working instead as editor for the publishing house Espasa-Calpa. He is known as a poet and art critic. He has published multiple books of poetry, most recently Desolación y vuelo, Poesía reunida (2011), and has received numerous awards: the Premio Boscán de Poesía for Poema para un nuevo libro in 1961, the Premio Nacional de Poesía for El don de la ignorancia in 2005, and the Cuidad de Barcelona prize for Un pez que va por el jardín in 2008.

Claudia Routon is Associate Professor of Modern & Classical Languages & Literatures at the University of North Dakota. She works with and translates the contemporary literature of Spain. Her work appears in Absinthe: The New European Writing, Romance Studies, Hunger Mountain, North Dakota Quarterly, Metamorphoses, and International Poetry Review.

افسوس کہ دنداں کا کیا رزق فلک نے
جن لوگوں کی تھی در خورِ عقدِ گہر انگشت

کافی ہے نشانی ترا چھلّے کا نہ دینا
خالی مجھے دکھلا کے بہ وقتِ سفر انگشت

لکھتا ہوں اسد سوزشِ دل سے سخنِ گرم
تا رکھ نہ سکے کوئی مرے حرف پر انگشت

Der Panther

                   Im Jardin des Plantes, Paris

Sein Blick ist von Vorübergehen der Stäbe
so müd geworden, daß er nichts mehr hält.
Ihm ist, als ob es tausend Stäbe gäbe
und hinter tausend Stäben keine Welt. 

Der weiche Gang geschmeidig starker Schritte,
der sich im allerkleinsten Kreise dreht,
ist wie ein Tanz von Kraft um eine Mitte,
in der betäubt ein großer Wille steht.

Nur manchmal schiebt der Vorhang der Pupille
sich lautlos auf—. Dann geht ein Bild hinein,
geht durch der Glieder angespannte Stille—
und hört im Herzen auf zu sein.

Και κάθομαι και απελπίζομαι τώρα εδώ.
Αλλο δεν σκέπτομαι: τον νουν μου τρώγει αυτή η τύχη•

διότι πράγματα πολλά έξω να κάμω είχον.
Α όταν έκτιζαν τα τείχη πώς να μην προσέξω.

Αλλά δεν άκουσα ποτέ κρότον κτιστών ή ήχον.
