      The cranium, smooth as the shaved pate of a skin-
      head. Without the skin. A tattooed carapace
      to protect the brain, its stitched fissures, ominous—

      these seams, unevenly repaired and thin,
      will they hold, subjected to a pressure test?
      The emptied orbits of the eyes: perfect to view

      the nothing they stare at. The wide fixed grin:
      remember those times you’d make a . . .
