In Arcadia

      We hadn’t pictured paradise
      with vultures circling overhead.
      Edenic lushness has a price
      we hadn’t pictured. Paradise
seems changeless, but its clock’s precise.
“It’s feeding time,” the watchers said.
      We hadn’t pictured paradise
      with vultures, circling overhead.
