Léon Leijdekkers was born in 1962 in Zierikzee, the Netherlands. In his self-described colorful memory, he mainly spent his youth wandering through nature on the beautiful island of Schouwen-Duiveland. It’s then that he started taking pictures and got his own darkroom. A professional career as a classical musician and later in orchestra management forced him to move and live elsewhere and in the process he lost his connection with photography, albeit not entirely. He recently discovered the world of digital photography and became very inspired by this new form. Léon attended master classes in Yorkshire, England, with the great photographer Martin Henson. Later he specialized in long-exposure photography with Jonathan Chritchley in French Basque country. And recently he joined Bill Schwab on a tour of the Faroe Islands—an inspiring journey with one of the truly great masters of modern photography. He owes these men, he says, and so many others a great deal of gratitude for inspiring him. But most inspiration, now and back then in his younger years, derives from the works of Beethoven, Schubert, Shostakovich, Webern and Ravel, and . . .
