ENCAUSTICS - COLLAGE - OIL - WATERCOLOR - MIXED MEDIA - ACRYLICS

(with occasional comments from the artist)

This is one of my favorite watercolors. It isn’t what I do most of and I don’t think it represents me but I do love it.

You’ve picked all my favorites. Although I did paint this, I can’t claim it as an original. I found this image in a magazine one day while I had my paints at work. I thought it would make a great painting. It was an ad for some bank or something.

This is one of my favorites also. The message here is: There are always sharp edges in life. Things aren’t always what they appear. keep your eyes open and don’t miss the small print. I am sure you noticed the scissor in this picture but you’d be surprised at how many don’t even catch that the knife was replaced by the scissor. that’s why I had to name it that.

I love the colors in this one. I haven’t entered it in anything because a neighbor bought it.

I won three awards in two shows with this one.

A very good example of my original idea and original painting. Excellent choice of encaustic work with a brush and heat gun.

Excellent choice of collage with encaustic. I love the message on it too.

Original oil — one of my series of self-expression pieces done during my internship at college.

Original idea, original oil —  everybody loves this puppy.

I belong to a group called “Women on the Edge”. We each brought an item to the table, and then we each put those pieces together into a painting. When it was my turn to take the pieces home, I made two sketches and chose this one to create the work. I loved doing it; it just flowed out of me. When it was finished, I stepped back to view it and realized I’d just created a metaphor for my life.

I live in a wonderful home with a view of Monterey Bay. Sometimes this high-maintenance home annoys me because instead of going to theatre or art shows, we stay home and fix or clean the garden. I feel like the bird in the gilded cage. I rant and rave at the lion (my ever calm husband who just watches me rant, ha.) We have a lovely lifestyle and I still want more. It’s just ridiculous. This work brought me a realization: “I am a spoiled woman.”

Painting is 18x24 mixed media. The price is $600. It is presented in a Nielsen-black metal frame.
