 The Genre Necklace

All kinds of
beads strung on a tangled necklace —
Bigger, smaller, pearl and porcelain,
Agate and amber, looped
And knotted, swinging back
And forth with the wearer’s walk,
Fingered like rosaries and pulled too hard
Roll in all directions. Pick one up,
Turn it between your thumb and finger,
Hold it up to the light. Alone, it looks
Bigger, but size is an illusion; it
Englobes a world gone manageable, small.
