I know, it's just barely Spring, but I received an advance copy of The Lyric's Winter 2006 edition, which includes poems by Esther Cameron ("Anniversary"), Michael Cantor ("Winter on Plover Island") and myself ("The Way Back").

Also, announcements in that issue of The Lyric's yearly prizes for 2005 judged by Robert Crawford: Jennifer Reeser ("Remembering I Have to Live There Lightly"), Susan McLean ("A Woman of a Certain Age"), Stephen Scaer ("A Crumpled Leaf"), Oliver Murray ("His Next Duchess") and Honorable Mentions for Jennifer Reeser ("The Night Without"), Stephen Scaer ("Water"),Teresa [sic] Coe ("Home Free All"), Susan McLean ("First Snow in October"), and Esther Cameron ("The Stone Girl").

Sorry if I missed anyone.

Catherine Chandler

Catherine,
This was the first I've heard of it. You've made my day. And congratulations to the other winners, too. Eratosphere made quite a showing in The Lyric this year.

Susan

Goodness, Catherine -- thank you! I hadn't heard any of this, the mail situation down here is so awful since the storms. I haven't gotten a single copy of Poetry in four months. Much gratitude. Congratulations to you, all the other fine names, and thanks to Mr. Crawford for his time and efforts, which are appreciated. Can anyone here give me an email address for The Lyric?

Jennifer

Jennifer, you're still not getting litmags? I think the situation is much improved in N.O., as I got the N.O. Review in Atlanta in only 2 days. OTOH, that was sent first-class mail, so maybe that's the difference. Or maybe they just got to the city first...

Thanks for the announcement, Catherine! It sure was a Spherean sweep, and kudos to all the winners and those who placed!

Many thanks, Catherine. Robin -- could be. Though with the gagged-and-bound state of current economics and construction crews arriving daily, it hardly seems worth a thought. What I wouldn't give for Dave and Alicia's Greek holiday! LOL.

Yeah, and you and a few other folks around here from the zone sure deserve a break of that magnitude! If I were rich, I'd scoop y'all up and have you on the next plane to the lovely Mediterranean destination of your choice, while the historic renovation crews came in and made at least your personal environs all better.
