Does anyone know the deadline for submitting to the World Order of Narrative and Formalist Poets? The webpage for Iambs and Trochees says October 3 but I seem to remember seeing a different deadline elsewhere? Any help?

The last information I have is a notice - passed on by Rhina Espaillat on March 15 - indicating that Alfred was still working on the guidelines. To the best of my knowledge, nothing regarding the World Order contest has been issued recently.

On the Iambs and Trochees website, there is a notice that mentions October 3rd right above the announcement for the contest. Does this refer to the contest or to the notice of publication above it? I'm not clear on this.

I assume the date refers to the Salemi notice, but who knows? It is a mysterious site.

I had a letter from Dr. Dorn late in July saying the rules for the WONFP contest would soon be ready for distribution and they'd appreciate our sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope (63 cents) if we wanted a copy of them. The letter didn't say when the deadline is and I didn't send for the guidelines, but he did say the competition is the most interesting they've ever sponsored.

Here is the address:

Dr. Alfred Dorn
World Order of Narrative and Formalist Poets
P.O. Box 580174, Station A
Flushing, NY 11358-0174

I received the complete rules some time ago, and the deadline, as I recall, was in mid-November. When I can find the letter I'll post the specific date, if someone else hasn't done so by then.

Periodically I receive a letter from Dr. Dorn asking me to send him some stamps and an envelope. Perhaps is he is secretly planning to open a private post office? Nemo

The deadline is Nov. 14. The rules are detailed, so you should send for a copy. Among them is that you have to be a current subscriber to Measure, but there's no other entry fee.

Thanks, Richard. I have a copy but it does not give all the details. I suppose I need to get the most current set. I was confused by the date that appears above the notice for the contest, thinking it might be the date for entry, but seems it was not.

I have entered the contest before and once won in a category there--see “Camilla at Death,” The Formalist, Summer 1997.

I'm puzzled. I sent an SASE for the contest guidelines, I am a subscriber to Measure, yet I have not received any information. Are others in the same situation?
