In Heat

Today Isabel became a woman
only she doesn't know it,
still frolicking with her
fuzz of green ball,
leaping about
like a tyke at the park.

I pat her on the rump
and the tail flips
to one side
just as it would
if the neighbor’s Collie
put his feet there.
