Default Autumn Sky Poetry Daily & some other things

"Solitary" is up at Autumn Sky Poetry DAILY this morning, a poem I workshopped here (with many thanks to those of you who helped me refine it): https://autumnskypoetrydaily.com/202...e-pennylegion/

"Obituary" is one I wrote after my late grandfather's death in 2021, a confluence of my interest in attempting blackout poetry and thinking about the absurd reductivism of obituary writing in general. How can you condense a life into a few paragraphs -- and what happens when you take that even further? It has been published at Months to Years: https://www.monthstoyears.org/obituary/ (note to scroll down as it shows most, but not all, of the poem in the post image)

On the not-poetry front, in February I published my master's thesis for general consumption. Lex Operandi, Lex Credendi: Dorothy L. Sayers's Theology of Work explores work and creativity in a number of Sayers's major works: the stage play The Zeal of Thy House, the novel Gaudy Night, the philosophical monograph The Mind of the Maker, and a selection of essays and radio broadcast addresses. It is available from any number of ebook retailers via this aggregate link: https://books2read.com/u/mKNw9B

It is good to see "Solitary" finding an audience in an excellent journal.

Congratulations, Christine! “Solitary” is a lovely poem, which I even had a little input into, so I couldn’t be prouder. Are you in Windsor? I was born and bred on the other end of the bridge.

Thank you, all

Carl, I am indeed in Windsor, though it's not my hometown. I grew up in Toronto and bounced around for a decade or so before ending up here four years ago. So hello from 'South Detroit'!

“South Detroit” is funny. I’m thinking it’s a Canadian’s idea of a Detroiter’s attitude toward Windsor, since I don’t think I’ve ever heard it. It reminds me of an old SNL joke: “I’m from New Jersey.” “Oh yeah? What exit?”

We just like to think we're the ones being referenced in the Journey song: https://genius.com/Journey-dont-stop-believin-lyrics (stanza one)

Congrats on all your publications, Christine! Particularly happy to see "Solitude" again.

Small world. My daughter was married in Windsor in 2020, and lived there until my son-in-law graduated from the university (while she finished up at San Diego State University remotely—the one upside of the COVID era). They're now in Toronto.

My uncle was born and raised in Detroit. But not South Detroit.

Small world indeed! I'm so tickled to find so many connections to my corner of the province. (Nick, also, has spent time in Windsor and now lives only 2h away.)

I’ve been to Windsor, as all Detroiters have, but I benefited more, growing up, from Canadian TV and radio, especially the extra dose of BBC via CBC. I even watched a season or two of “Coronation Street.” You probably know the voice of Mike Kakuk—the best breezy morning radio voice I’ve ever heard.
