A monster goes on trial
I will never forget the day I heard that news on the radio. Sebrinica had fallen. The UNs protection was only an empty promise.

Nor did the man once dubbed the "Butcher of Bosnia" and the "Beast of the Balkans" show any remorse: catching the eye of a woman in the audience — a survivor of the massacre he is accused of ordering in Srebrenica — Mladic ran his hand across his throat. The throat-cutting gesture prompted presiding judge Alphons Orie to hold a brief recess and order an end to "inappropriate interactions."

UN protection was never worth a damn. A soldier is, understandably, not keen on laying down his life for the United Nations, which means in practice for nothing.

It is not the UN that is at fault. Anyone who allows such things to happen without an outcry is at some fault. UN troops are only effective as the brief and support they are given. Janice, thank you for taking notice.

This mischaracterization is unworthy of you, John.

Oh, a question I can deal with at last! I am of five minds on this topic, both of which are in disagreement.

You could be right, Wintaka. I must shut up about organisations like the EU and the UN that make me cross. They might have their good points for all I know. I should, at my age, keep off politics and stick to versifying. I know how I used to feel about old folks rabbitting on.

John!
Don't your DARE shut up. There's enough hot and stinky air blowing around here. Yours won't hurt a bit.
Don't you dare!
