Default The Republic of Virtue at last

At last, my new book, The Republic of Virtue, is in stock at Amazon. Thanks to those of you who patiently waited for the book to arrive. It’s on the way. The University of Evansville published a gorgeous book. Like Maryann Corbett, who won this year’s Richard Wilbur Award, I feel honored for winning last year’s. I hope you all will take a look at the book on the following link:

Congratulations, Paul. Do you know if your book will be available in a Kindle format?

Good question, Andrew. I don't know, so I'll email the folks at U of Evansville and let you know.

Hey, hey! Congratulations!

Btw, Evansville includes such great art on their covers, don't they?

Default The Tower of Babeou

Mike, I picked the painting. You can't imagine how many paintings of the Tower of Babel there are. This was my favorite.

Default Rachel Hadas on The Republic of Virtue

Whether his subject is the Tower of Babel or "The Emperor's New Clothes," Paul Lake writes with wit, precision, and sometimes cutting honesty. But this accomplished poet isn't all edges. In a poem about an errant teenager, or an elegy for a fellow poet dead too young, Lake, while still unfailingly crystalline in his clarity, can also wring the reader's heart. A strong and distinctive collection. --Rachel Hadas

Congratulations, Paul -- and I look forward to reading it.

Just checked my Amazon order, and the extended holding pattern has finally changed over to "Shipping Now."

Default Catharine Brosman on THE REPUBLIC OF VIRTUE

Not all is Swiftian satire, however; Lake's voice can be tender, moving us by gentle charm and home truths. Poetry of a high order is always insight and illumination; we have it here. --Catharine Savage Brosman
