Hi, folks --
I'm trying to pull together as many good examples as I can before trying my hand at one.
So far, I have the following. Can you folks add others, and if so inclined, say why you think the example works?
AE Stallings
Why should the devil
Frances Cornford
To a Fat Lady
Wendy Cope
I used to think
Carol Rumens
This must be home
Gavin Ewart
I purchased the Ring
Robert Bridges
When first we met
Thomas Hardy
Around the house
How great my grief
For long the cruel wish
At last one pays the penalty
GK Chesterton
You might not be in love
When I tried to know myself
If I were a jellyfish
Sandra McPherson
She was in love
Taylor Graham
This house of things
Sara Teasdale
Love looked back
If you were Lady Beatrice
Beyond the dim Hesperides
Dead leaves upon the stream
Andrew Lang
Triolets after Moschus
Austin Dobson
I intended an Ode
David Anthony
Passing through the woods
Don Marquis
Your triolet should glimmer
Carole Bromley
Needlewoman
Mike Alexander
I look hard at the mirror
Rachel Hadas
Triolets in the Argolids
Marilyn Nelson
Triolets for the Triolet
Cheers,
BobB

Bob,
I'm very fond of Hardy's "Winter in Durnover Field".

from the unjustly forgotten Ronald Bottrall:
Fibi Pronounced Phoebe
I considered a cat
But she looked like a dog;
Some suggested a bat,
I considered a cat.
She was certainly fat
And resembled a hog.
I considered a cat
But she looked like a dog.

EXAMPLE OF A TRIOLET
To write a triolet,
follow this example.
The easiest way
to write a triolet
without going astray
is to copy a sample.
To write a triolet,
follow this example.

I always rather fancied this one of mine, so hope I may be forgiven for sending it to you:
WORKER BEES
Staring at fluorescent screens,
Letting life pass by unheeded,
Little better than machines
Staring at fluorescent screens,
We'll pass on our altered genes
To generations who'll be seated
Staring at fluoroscent screens,
Letting life pass by unheeded.

Michael Cantor's Summer Island, which tied with David Anthony's Winter Funeral (also excellent) for some prize or other, has to be one of the best -- unfortunately, I don't have a copy. Maybe someone will post it.

Thanks for the list of triolets, BobB. I was charmed by the Don Marquis:
Your triolet should glimmer
Like a butterfly;
In golden light, or dimmer,
Your triolet should glimmer,
Tremble, turn, and shimmer,
Flash, and flutter by;
Your triolet should glimmer
Like a butterfly.
Roger-Bob - You have a recognizable voice. Nice one.
