Pax Vobiscum
Upon There Being Not A Ritual
Upon there being not a ritual to say
Upon there being not a name for my belief
Upon there being not a body of the known
Upon there being not an answer in the leaf
Upon there being not a question in the stars
Upon there being not salvation for the soul
Upon there being not a God to make it well
Upon there being not an object or a goal
Upon there being not a purpose for the pain
Upon there being not a pathway to a bliss
Upon there being not a meaning to the words
Upon there being not a way of saying this
These things I dwell
Yet thereupon there being nothing further from the truth
And thereupon there being nothing briefer than this while
And thereupon there being nothing holier than hope
And thereupon there being nothing kinder than a smile
I make my peace
Let joy be unrestrained!
Philip
Thank you to Bill for putting the notion of peace into my mind. I'm doing good karma the best way I know how...

Donna, I think Philip is bringing out the best in us. Everywhere is a good place for good verse.
Kevin
Philip, God's peace be with you.

My mistake, I thought you were posting a poem for critique.
Peace,

Philip, I like your poem. I hope it doesn't get moved or deleted. Thanks.

Philip,
Thanks for this. It means a lot to me.
The sun will be coming up in Rome soon. Five P.M. in Italy will be eleven A.M. here. Looks like it'll be four P.M. your time. Keep sending that karma until then!
Peace to you and yours.
Thanks,
Bill

To quote Ellen Willis, from The Writer's Almanac today:
"My deepest impulses are optimistic, an attitude that seems to me as spiritually necessary and proper as it is intellectually suspect."

Very beautiful, very repetitive, very much in the wrong place, Philip.

Why in the world do you think that, Roy?
He wasn't looking for critique. He was just expressing a feeling of joyousness that is completely in keeping with the holiday season. Railing against EVERY poem posted in GT smacks of dogma and completely overlooks what I'm pretty sure is Philip's point. Which is too bad, since the point is a good one. Sometimes the only way to express a sentiment is poetically. And that shouldn't be relegated to the workshop. Canary in the coalmine and all that.
