Default Nabokov's prosody

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm planning on offering a critical seminar at this year's conference. Its subject will be Vladimir Nabokov's "Pale Fire" (poem) and his "Notes on Prosody." Gingko Press will soon be bringing out (I hope by June) an edition of the poem by "John Shade," with essays by Brian Boyd and myself. I think this should provide grist for our critical mills!

If you're interested in participating, please let me know. And feel free to pass this on to others. We will have three three-hour sessions during the conference, with a Saturday panel summarizing our work.

Even without your seminar, it would be nice to have access to the material in his book that combines poems and chess problems, which is now out of print and prohibitively costly. My copy has been mislaid.

I remember last summer I read an edited copy of N. lectures but I left it on an airplane. There was a wonderful article, I believe, in the Atlantic a few years ago talking about chess problems and other allusions in Lolita. The funniest thingI remember in his poetry is the outrageous simile about the effect of, I think, the Bulgarian novela on something else. I would love to find a collected poems. There are one or two poems scattered in A Gift. The lepidotera symbols also reoccur in some of his work.

And if so, where does it lead? To false azure?

Thanks,
