The students who were in class yesterday did an excellent job of keeping a straight face. Having not seen the passage before, they did an excellent job connecting the imaginary passage to previous moments in
Macbeth. I mean, they were able to tie all the symbolism in and were able to notice other things I didn't even think of.
They even kept a straight face through the first slides of the
Power Point, even through the third slide.
The kids who were there had no idea, but made good observations on the fake passage, too, though they were clearly horrified that they had read the homework and not noticed this passage. Finally, though, one of the better students who missed class raised her hand and declared emphatically the passage wasn't in the play, and then the class started laughing and we confessed. All and all, I thought it went well, though a couple of students did look like they were a little over-stressed about it.
