This is by orders of magnitude the biggest audience I have reached. We're very pleased with how it came out, and we'll be doing it again soon.

Damn fine interview, Tim. Wide-ranging and real. Your frankness on all fronts is refreshing.

Seree, Dave, PPTV reaches the Prairie Provinces of Canada, Montana, Minnesota, and the Dakotas, a vast area (North Dakota alone is bigger than New England) with a sparse population. Dave, in terms of frankness, I don't want to frighten the horses, but the books are what they are. Our next show will be devoted to Alan Sullivan, verse translator, and we'll tackle the Beowulf and the poems of King David.
The real credit for this show goes to Matt Olien, producer, who wrote the questions posed to me by John Harris. Matt is my contemporary and knows my work.
I asked him "Did I pick my nose or scratch my crotch?" "Why ever would you ask that," said Matt. "Because the last time I was on your show I did both."

I can watch the video but for some reason can't hear the sound.
How annoying.

Great interview, Tim. Much enjoyed.
By the way, that's terrible about the Borges translations. What's Senora B. got against them?

Greg, Bob Mezey and the late Dick Barnes set out to translate all 800 poems with the encouragement of the estate and Penguin. Of course this was a labor of many, many years. Then the estate and Penguin changed horses, deciding instead on a translation from diverse hands, most of whom didn't speak Spanish. Two great verse translators, John Hollander and Dick Wilbur, were so appalled, they refused Penguin the rights to their translations. This was a major literary injustice, and Ms. Kodama will have much to answer for at the Last Assize.
I'm delighted people enjoyed the show. I was terrified, but it came out pretty well. It helps a lot to know the poems by heart.
