I duly clicked but I'm a little puzzled as to how it works. What is the connection between my clicking and a book making its way to a child in need?

How do the clicks turn into money? The sponsors whose ads you see provide the money, basing it on the number of clicks recorded (and of course when people buy their stuff, they give more money). Then the money goes to groups that buy the books. I'm less certain how the clicks turn into mammograms, but nonetheless I click on that site too.
