Brooke Clark, whom you may know as the editor of
The Asses of Parnassus, has recently posted an article in
Partisan about the attractions of the Latin poet Martial, which quotes from my recent poetic translations and the even more recent prose translations of Gideon Nisbet. If you don't know Martial, I warn you that the translations are quite racy in some cases. I will say that I tend to agree with Clark about the things that make reading Martial entertaining.
