My translation of
Panchavati Prasang or
Panchavati, An Introduction written in Hindi by Maithili Sharan Gupt, who was given the title of 'National Poet' by no less a person than Mahatma Gandhi, is featured in this month's
Creativity Webzine.
Maithili Sharan Gupt published his famous poem Panchavati in the year 1925. It is a long narrative poem in Hindi that depicts an important turning point in the Ramayana. It is considered to be one of Gupt's most significant literary works and has played a vital role in shaping the modern Hindi literary canon. My translation is a (relatively) small part of the poem, which is very very popular for its alliterative sounds. In Hindi, this part is called Panchavati Prasang, which translates to Panchavati, An Introduction.
The poetic translation, the original translation or crib (also mine) and the original (in devanagari script) appear on the website.
When you get the chance, please give it a read.
Thanks,
Paddy
