In Sheridan's A School for Scandal the prologue gives a speech where "wrote" and "Quixote" rhyme. That's kind of like the Romantic poets with PROS-er-pine.

I am probably exposing my ignorance now, but it won't be the first time.

Isn't that the Spanish pronunciation--to rhyme with "wrote", it isn't listed in my Spanish dictionary. I could get out my Spanish pronouncing CD dictionary but I don't know where it is exactly.

If you google "Man of La Mancha" you'll probably find videos that will demonstrate the pronunciation I learned as correct for Spanish speakers: kee HO teh
