Chez Allgar
Inspired by Jayne Osborn, I sought out Brian Allgar when I was in Paris recently. I visited him at his pad and spent a warm and wonderful evening with him and his wife, Françoise. The first part of the evening was spiced by the company of a good old friend of his, Andrew Duncan-Jones, a very erudite and literary guy. Brian and I would seem to have a lot in common. Here are a couple of photos taken in accordance with Spherian custom. In the one of us two Brian is wearing my cap, a souvenir from Dublin.

Good Heavens. Brian is actually OLDER than me. It does shows you what Paris France can do for you.The cap's a bit of a disaster though, isn't it? Has it been soused in Guinness? Le chapeau est un peu disastreux... naw I give up.

No one wears berets in Paris nowadays, eh, Whitworth? Now, now, no splitting hairs by calling it a Tam, you hear. Hey, John, is it just me who thinks that Allgar looks like a well-known British actor? I can't think of the name just now, but can you?

Yes, but Dick Davis looks like that famous English actor - you know - what's-his-name - the guy who was in that movie about the war - who had the good-looking girlfriend. John Whitworth, on the other hand, resembles Jean Paul Belmondo. I think it's a thuggish, yet feline grace thing.

God Heavens, Michael, that's the nicest thing practically anyone has ever said about me. And it is true that in the days when I smoked cigarettes Gauloises were my preferred brand.
What English actor who was in 'the film about the war'? John Mills? Robert Donat? I think they all had good-looking wives.
