Shameless self-promotion
I was very chuffed today to receive a copy of the Japanese literary journal 'Coal Sack' in which my book 'Passing through the Woods' is reviewed and extensively quoted. Alas, I do not know whether the review is positive or negative, since I cannot read Japanese.
I was equally chuffed to receive a royalties statement--and a cheque--from my publisher for the period January-March 2013 saying that 23 books have been sold. This was a surprise, since the book came out a year ago and you don't expect them to sell after the first few months, particularly if you don't promote them.
So I'm feeling well-disposed towards the poetry world at the moment (but will keep the day job).

Congrats, David. No shame allowed, except this:

If I knew the Japanese for "Congratulations!" I'd be writing it here. Many congratulations indeed!

Absolutely correct, Rick. The reviews in British mags have been few and far between.

I was featured in Gendaishi Techo once. A Japanese academic, Professor Fukuma Kenji came to "make interview" with me and his wife Keiko brought me a gift of the loveliest piece of woven silk I have ever seen.
He had been particularly moved by a poem I had written about an ash crook and asked if I would show it to him. He ran his fingers delicately over the sheep-teethmarks that I had described and handed it back with a kind of quiet reverence.
After they left, I held the silk against my cheek and wondered what would have happened if I had had to confess to having made the whole thing up.
