Default Speccie New Word Order by 14 August

If we can't have a verse then I like these word things. Always the chance of a fiver. I'm not sure I've fully worked this thing out. I shall wait for one of the great ones to show me the way.

No. 2811: New word order

You are invited to take an existing word and alter it by a) adding a letter; b) changing a letter; and c) deleting a letter; and to supply definitions for all three new words (150 words maximum). Please email entries, where possible, to lucy@spectator.co.uk by midday on 14 August.

Sounds like a severe case of ISIHAC to me...

As it might be, John, whitewart, one of those mysterious chalky blebs that occasionally appear on the back of the hand. So, delete h, add an e, change o to a.

The problem is, Jerome, that I think three words are needed, one for each modification, not a single word using all three changes (although the wording of the competition is ambiguous) - as it might be:

Whitworthy, shitworth, and witworth

with of course accompanying definitions. Sounds like a tough one to me.

Thank you, Brian. I suppose the semi-colons, which I didn't notice, are a clue, but I think an example lke yours might have made things clearer.
