New Year's resolutions?
I realize no one has started a happy holidays thread. So Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah and Happy New Year!!
Do you have a new year's resolution, and have you broken it yet as Julie has apparently just confessed to having done? Or do you have a great or lousy track record of keeping them? I've usually been careful to only make a vow I can keep, but haven't even thought of a resolution until starting this thread.
We all need something fun and light to start out the year. So fess up. (And preferably make it sordid and juicy, k.):

I will not make remarks about Ed Milibum's appeaance.
I will not make remarks about David Cameron's lies.
I will not make remarks about poor Mr Clegg at all.

John,
The only name I recognize there for sure is your dear Prime Minister, or as you would more likely call him (if only you hadn't made that pesky resolution), your dire Prime Minister. Now just how long do you think you can keep those resolutions? hehe Anyone wanna place some bets?

New Year's resolutions should be spontaneous and light-hearted; otherwise it will lead to misery. As this article concludes, we should "make a New Year’s resolution not to make New Year’s resolutions".

Probably sometime in February I'm planning to resolve to be more punctual.

I'm fond of New Year's Resolutions because of a strong one I made more than twenty years ago: I resolved to take at least one risk each week. I didn't do anything worth mentioning for several weeks, because I was working with a lousy definition of "risk," but once I fixed that, the resolution took on real life. By the end of the year, I had left my job, was living in Hungary, and was writing more than I ever had. Though I'm back in the States, my Hungarian wife and bilingual kids are regular reminders of how much I owe to that wonderful resolution.
This year's resolutions are boring. Maybe it's time for me to revive that old one.

We have an election coming up. Jeanne. These are party leaders, perhaps not very good ones. But rhen that's true everywhere, isn't it?

I happen to love the biggest procrastinator in the world. So of course Neil thought this one was hilarious. If he could actually launch himself to even start resolving by Feb., it would be huge progress!

If you need a later start, the first day of the Chinese New Year is February 19. (Or, if you're REALLY a procrastinator, Rosh Hashanah isn't until September 13...)
