Default At Horison Review: Mario Petrucci: Poetry and Poetry Competitions: What’s the Point?

I am loath to encroach on any of the DG threads but with reference to them, I'd like to offer up an essay at Horizon Review with also deals with "what poetry is". Or isn't.

It is, I think, superfluous to add that the present Horizon Review editor is Katy Evans-Bush and the former editor was Jane Holland. Both well-known to the faithful contributors and lurkers of Eratosphere.

Seems pompous nonsense to me. Poetry is about saving the planet. No it isn't, it's about cheering people up like any art form.

There's also Peter Riley's Poetry Prize Culture and the Aberdeen Angus and my little Competition poems article

Apologies, Tim. I didn't mean to slight anyone. Thanks for adding.

John, look around you at those who are cheered up (or not) by the first two days of our Poetry Appreciation.

This event is one of the best ideas someone (who) ever came up with. Who do I thank?

Ahem. This thread. Post 8 (she said, never one to be shy about claiming credit ) In the first instance I really wasn't thinking about anything involving a judge, but here we are.

But let's also give credit to Alex for taking the suggestion, not to mention Michael and Amit for making it happen.

I have a memory like a sieve. But good judgement, as I liked the idea then as well.

Many thanks, Maryann. I'm loving it.
