Hi, all! I workshopped a translation of this sonnet here about ten years ago, and got a lot of helpful feedback (despite not quite being able to get the translation to work to my satisfaction at the time), so thanks:

Sonnet IV by Edgar Degas

If you are interested in the venue, the next open submission window for The Ekphrastic Review will be during the month of April, so you might want to start preparing something now. The submission guidelines contain a lot of specifics, including an allergy to em-dashes (the editors prefer two hyphens), so formatting might take you a bit more time and care than for other venues. There is a $5 CAD fee (about $3.70 USD) per submission (not per poem).

That's great, Julie. Very nicely translated - so far as I can tell from my ancient A-Level French, anyway.

So Degas was a poet as well as a painter? I had no idea.
