Gail, do you know how to highlight or select a word or group of words? Also, I'm going to put a link in this message. When you are logged in to the Sphere, click on Quote (lower right corner) on my message. Then study the HTML code and "select" it and copy it into your message. Ok, here's the link:

PRACTICE #3

[="lightpoetrymagazine.com/revamp/] Read Light here.

Okay, this is no longer funny. That was with Maryann's numbered directions. Nothing that I can do makes the stuff in brackets go away.

This was a second try using Roger's directions. And even though I don't know how to highlight words properly, the link does work. I think I should leave it at that. Everyone's help is much appreciated.

That's the whole problem right there, Gail. With HTML, you have to be very surgical and precise. You know those four little arrow keys on your keyboard? (up, down, left, right)

1. Put your cursor near a sentence.
2. Press and hold down the Shift key.
3. Use the right arrow to move the "select" forward. If you want to select a whole paragraph, use the arrow that points down.

If you practice this a few times, it will become second nature. THEN you can move on to making links work.

Gail,

Using my magical secret squirrel wizard of Oz powers, I can see what you did. I cut and pasted your exact text below, adding two asterisks so the code will show up. You are so close!!

Here's what you have.

Click [*U] here.[*URL="http://lightpoetrymagazine.com/revamp/"]http://lightpoetrymagazine.com/revamp/

First, let's take out the U's, since they muddy the picture.

Click here.[*URL="http://lightpoetrymagazine.com/revamp/"]http://lightpoetrymagazine.com/revamp/

Better? Ok, here's what's happening. The bracket [ says to the computer "pay attention to me." Then, the URL says "provide a link to this place." Right after the quotation mark, the text tells the computer "display this for the link." Then the says "stop paying attention."

So, here's what you need:

[*URL="http://lightpoetrymagazine.com/revamp/"]Here.

But notice: that will give you two 'here's. Let's get rid of the first one:

Click
[*URL="http://lightpoetrymagazine.com/revamp/"]Here.

Better?

Now, let's take out the asterisk, and see it it works: Click Here.

Hey! bob's your uncle, after all!
