I expected part of the tax was for my country's defense; not Iran's, but America's. Those missiles were supposed to defend America, not Iran. So, Tim, are you counting Iraq en toto as a "successful foreign policy initiative"? I remember you writing celebratory poems at the beginning of the war, then not much of anything about it once it started to suck.

As for the surge "working," I think the best that can be said is that it's sucked less than previous gambits, but still hasn't solved much overall. The whole war has been an exercise in magical thinking from beginning to present.
