When people bemoan the fact that "gay" has come to mean "homosexual" instead of "happy and carefree", they turn their annoyance to homosexuals, assuming that homosexuals are to blame for the change in meaning, but they aren't. It was heterosexuals who first started calling homosexuals "gay". The new meaning was coined by heterosexuals, not homosexuals.
