Default Dark Horse

Gerry Cambridge (our Macambrose) saw the Summiteer over at the Deep End this week and requisitioned it for The Dark Horse. Thanks to all who helped. Gerry's published well over thirty poems for Alan and me, but it's been a couple of years now; and I'm glad to be back in the saddle. I continue to think TDH and First Things print the best hard copy poems I regularly see, though I think Rory, Nick, and their New Walk will give them a run for the roses.

Wow that was fast. Not surprising though, given how stunning that poem is. Congratulations, Tim.

This has happened a lot to me with Deep End stuff. Some damn good editors have lurked here, Jody Bottum, Gerry Cambridge, Rory Waterman, and they're not bashful about going after what they want. Best of all, the new issue is published Feb 14, a valentine for my late partner.

Oh, so that's the purpose of The Deep End!

Many congrats, Tim!

While apparently the Raintown doesn't rate for Tim, most of what we take from the Sphere is unsolicited.

Sorry, Quincy, I rate Raintown quite highly, and it's getting better. And yes, most of what you and Anna have taken from me, you've asked for after seeing it at your workshop or this one.

Tim--

No offense meant, and I trust none taken. I mostly intervened on the off-chance that some members might think that small magazines represented here or on the Round-Up in some form get most of their copy by hand-picking off the crit boards. It happens on occasion, but... not in the majority of cases. And actually, while I have asked you for poems I thought would work in the past Tim, you have, to a greater extent than you'd like to admit, gotten in the way most people do--you submitted, cleared the slush, cleared the shortlist, and had work accepted through the usual channels.

Paul Lake just asked for a poem for First Things that he declined four years ago. Three really good Mondays in a row!

Way to go, Tim! I'm glad The Summiteer found a home, because it's a great poem.
