Congrats to all! I don't know Bob, but I'm glad to see the Spherians are everywhere!
By the way, talking of Rhina Espaillat, she will be in LA this Monday (Jan. 30). Tim Steele has invited her to be the Annual Jean Burden reader at Cal State LA. I'll be there, and hope to see some others of you too.

Right-wing Powow judge. Right-wing Powow winner. It may be quite innocent. But it looks unseemly. So says a fair number of messages in my inbox. I'm the only one with the balls to say something.
Corrupt!
(And for the record, I have never entered the Nemerov.)

Congrats Bob, Stephen, and Peter. I second what Pat says about Peter -- he has published so many great sonnets in the past few years, it is nice to see him get some recognition for his own work.
Go Sphere!

Quincy, does being right wing mean he likes Newt Gingrich or something else? What is powow? I long to know.

Okay, I don't think it is deliberately corrupt, but when one gives an award to someone of similar background whom one knows well, it just... looks bad. (The politics, if relevant at all, are a matter of vague affinity--I level no specific charge.) I doubt Mike in any way "rigged" the contest. He's a far better man than that. It's nevertheless pretty unseemly. Many contest have rules about this sort of thing.
The Powow River Poets are a Newburyport, MA-based poetry group. Several members are active here.

OK Quincy the point is made. The broader issue can be debated at GT if you like. Nice if we could keep AM for celebration.

Who was the judge? And congratultions to David Berman, Peter Bloxsom, and Stephen Scaer, all of them long distance friends. Quincy, you should give it a whirl next year. Rhina is anything but right wing.

Yes, would someone please say who the judge was? My less-than-reliable memory thinks it was Michael Juster, because that was alluded to on another thread. If someone will confirm that, I'll try to update the Wikipedia page for the contest.
