Congratulations to Terese Coe for winning first place in this sonnet contest this year. I got an honorable mention and so did Tom Jardine, whom some of you may remember from when he used to post regularly here.

Congratulations to all, and thanks, Susan, for the report. If the winners will be published anywhere, please let us know.

Well, Terese with the prize money you can buy drinks for us all!
And congratulations to you too, Susan. The honor you earned will remain when the prize money has gone to treating friends, well-wishers and thirsty hangers-on.
As will the honor you earned, Terese. I'll have a virtual cinzano, thank you, just ice and a little lemon peel.

I'm afraid the prize money is quite modest ($50 to the winner, if I remember correctly, and nothing to the honorable mentions). The poems are not published, so they are available to submit elsewhere. But there was no entry fee for the contest, so the honor is at least not dearly bought, unlike in some contests.

Yes, well-deserved, everyone. Warm congrats to all -- even though you beat me!

Thanks so much, all y'all! And especially to Susan for the announcement--with congrats to you and Tom for placing.
The sonnet was "Book of Changes" which I revised especially for this contest.
Janice, I clink my glass to yours, enjoy!

Congratulations! And by the way, does anyone happen to know who the judge was this year?

The judge was Amy Jo Zook. There were 107 entries. For next year, the deadline is Sept. 1, 2009 (for the postmark), and the entries should be sent to Barbara Eaton, 416 Gierz Street, Downers Grove, IL 60515. One sonnet per person, either Shakespearean or Petrarchan, may be entered, and there is no entry fee. The sonnet must be original and unpublished. You send 2 copies, typed double-spaced on standard paper, with name and address on one copy in the upper right corner, but no ID on the 2nd. Enclose an SASE for the list of winners
