Sharon,
Oh, Penland, wonderful Penland........ in the 60s, for seven years we, with our three small children, spent two weeks every summer at Penland, My husband dedicated his vacation from Blenko Glass to give a workshop in glass at Penland. It was a wonderful, magical place for our children - and for us. The community of artist/craftspeople, the quality of the work produced was festive and inspiring. We have gone back now and then and though much is changed it is still a wonderful place. Several of the artists who attended the summer school when we and they were young now live and work around Penland. I think you should drop everything and secure a place for a long summer stay. You will be inspired.

Oh goodness, I would if I could, but, being a single mom it's hard to drop everything. On the up-side, since our move to upstate South Carolina, it wouldn't be too difficult to go see the galleries or go do a weekend something or other.

This upcoming workshop looks excellent!!
Oregon-based book artist Rory Sparks will teach an eight-week concentration in animated letterpress at Penland this spring. Rory cites the useless machines of Bruno Munari and Marcel Duchamp’s film Anémic Cinéma as two sources of inspiration for the workshop. Below, she talks more about why these two artists and works animate her thinking about motion and letterpress. - See more at:
