Has anyone mentioned Chekhov's short stories? They are absolutely brilliant. I've read them over and over--and will continue to do so.

Frank O' Connor's short stories are a must-read too. As are Italo Calvino's Cosmicomics.

And yes to Jane Eyre! Re-read it this last summer, and was bowled over by the astute psychology of it.

Had to teach Moby Dick to get myself to read it--and was SO glad I did.

I haven't read enough of Shakespeare. I recently saw the film of the RSC's Richard II. Amazing! Made me want to read all of Shakespeare's histories. I hope I will!
