"Happydancing"
Oh, it squidged it, together with a lot of other stuff I never knew I had.
Thanks Bill-and-all.

If you run Windows, go to Control Panel, then click on Programs. You can uninstall any unwanted ones. Don't know about Mac, though.

Alas, it proved not to be quite that easy, Sam - the bugger didn't die without a fight and took my browsers down with it. But all is well now, thanks to the efforts of friends.

I think dregol was what I got, probably by also clicking on some phony update so that is probably the way it infects, Mac should automatically update software, so ignoring pop-ups that ask you to update some software/app you have, is one way to avoid this problem.

Ann, I didn't have Dregol, but something similar, or worse, back in April. I tried everything but in the end I had to pay a technician $25 to clean up the laptop with a complete reinstall. I saved (actually I already had backup) Word files, pictures, etc., beforehand. It was a bit of a bother to put back my favorite bookmarks, but this only took less than a half hour. Good luck!
