I'm going to repeat what I said on FB: Kudos to Ed for his distinctively, underhandedly clever poem!

Wow! I love it. I like the understated way in which you uncover subtexts to your premise of mole people, so that words like "enlightenment" take on ironic but very appropriate resonances.

Thanks, all, for the kind words, which have brought a blush to my cheeks. I have a soft spot for this poem, which I've worked and reworked for years, and I was very happy to learn this morning that it had found a home at Autumn Sky.

I saw the wonderfully bad B movie of the same name when I was a little kid. They were not exactly handsome specimens and were meant to be scary, but I remember feeling sorry for them back then, and was glad when the mole people, who were kept as slaves, rebelled. They changed a lot when I reimagined them years later, but I'm sure "The Mole People" was the original inspiration. It's funny, what fancy does with one's memory!

Best,

Ed

Go, Ed, go!

Netflix has a copy of The Mole People paired up with Tarantula.
It's now on the top of my rental list!
