Default Parodies

The book "Martin Gardner's Favorite Poetic Parodies" is a good a start as any that I've seen in the art of parody.

Gardner was a science writer (he contributed to Scientific American for many years) who was debunking junk science back in the 1950's; long before the term junk science was invented.

As a hobby, he collected hundreds of poetic parodies over his long life, and this book was the result. (also, he wrote a few himself, which are included under a pseudonym). BTW, this book has been out long enough to be on various used book websites

Eugene Field's parody of "The Old Oaken Bucket", "The Old Fashioned Harlot", alone, is reason enough buy the book. (remember, Field was famous as a children's poet.)
