There's only one person in this thread who seems to have a "deeper motive," and it's not Sam.

My deeper motive is not exactly a secret, Therese! I've been a vehement supporter of Kim Bridgford and a protester against the WCU administration's suspiciously unfair decisions since the beginning. I'm raising my voice once more lest people be tempted to think WCU's transgressions against our community and one of its most respected leaders have been forgiven and forgotten.
Sam's deeper motive can stay secret a little while longer, I guess.

Sam's integrity is beyond question. Fortunately, all the rest of that is not my problem. No one is raining on your parade, Anna.

I agree with Quincy that becoming a hermit is increasingly the only option. It has worked for others. But one more word from anyone stirring the pot on last year's big drag... one more!... and I will make an exception and go to the West Chester conference twice, never returning to Madison, CT. And then I'll go back to being a hermit.
I will send my children out for beer.

Bad things happened, yes. But the response -- a branching out and regeneration -- has been creative, healthy, and encouraging. And as a result, there are now several conferences I would love to attend if I could, instead of just one. This is a different kind of problem!
If it's a competition, that's only in the sense of the marketplace. And in my opinion, that can be a good thing.

What words of wisdom from Claudia!
I've very much been toying with the idea of going to Poetry by the Sea in 2016, but WC now sounds great... and as I still have no proper idea what all that sh*t was about last year... I've decided I just might go to both conferences!
There will be a week between PBTS ending and WC beginning, in which I could explore New York, which I've never done, apart from seeing the inside of JFK airport a few times.
I'll need to book some accommodation, and a 'tour guide' would be great. Is anyone able to convince me to book a 3-week holiday and do all of this stuff? (Answers on a postcard please ...Or by PM.)
