Thank you so much for all the comments on this. You are absolutely right about the hex line. It is a bad mistake. I often include alexandrines in my first drafts (for some weird reason) then revise them out. I sent the wrong version of this--but I do have a very good excuse: I'm an idiot.
I thought this sonnet needed quite plain diction because the speaker would probably pride himself on being a plain-speaking man.
Richard, the thought that this is the inner Me is positively alarming-lol. The last time I captured a castle I behaved like a complete lady, though I did confiscate some of the velvet drapes. I actually wrote this after reading some fantasy swords & sorcery story, and thinking they were all a lot of sissies.
