Congratulations!
Has Bill scheduled the Nemerov smoking jacket fitting in yet? (you can only wear it at the Nemerov events)

smoking jacket?
This contest keeps getting better and better! Actually, out here in Washington state, where recreational marijuana is now legal, a smoking jacket is a fishing vest supplied with your favorite hemp.

Hilarious, Marty! Congrats to you, and Maryann and Cathy, and all you other finalists. And Susan, what a nice consolation prize!

Thanks, Marion. It's nice to be here.
I'm guessing that people are wondering who the heck I am since I have not had any presence to speak of on the poetry scene. As far as education goes, I studied English lit at Berkeley (BA) and Harvard (MA). I've attended the Bread Loaf Sicily, Tin House, and Sewanee conferences, and. I've also worked one-on-one with some good poets (in particular, Mary Zybist). Though I've been writing poetry seriously for seven years or so, I've really just started submitting my poems to contests and for publication. (I was a finalist in the 2012 Nemerov sonnet contest.) I'm currently working on a manuscript of poems that I hope to complete in the next 3-4 months.
I'll be 61 in a few weeks, am married, and have two grown sons. I retired a year ago from a high-tech staffing firm that I founded and own. I live on Bainbridge Island in Washington state. We're a 35-minute ferry ride from Seattle. And, yes, I drink lots of coffee.
I look forward to getting to know you and other Sphereans.
Thanks,
Marty

A big welcome to Marty, and congratulations to all the winners -- and to my loser sister Susan for her runner-up prize! I know her poem is a corker, and I'm looking forward to reading the rest.

Welcome to our midst, Marty. As several of us can attest, 61 is by no means too late to get started. Best of luck with your book project.!
