John:
We do, but just barely. They made a couple of lively runs in Massachusetts and elsewhere in recent years, but seem to be less feisty lately.
David:
Congratulations!

Thanks Maryanne for this thread, and Mike and others for your kind support. John, you need not be present in Oxford to vote. The rules have changed to allow on-line voting, but you must register. It's pretty straightforward:

Congratulations, David!

Yea Tories! Hope this means David wins too.
Scotland seems to have done a complete about-face since the referendum on cutting loose. Any explanation for that?

Thanks, Bill. I agree it's a historic election. Expect a federal UK and an English parliament within the next few years.
I don't recall an election during a period of economic recovery when the incumbent party lost; plus, I was surprised while canvassing by the number of Labour voters who told me they were switching to the Tories. So I went down to the betting shop and put £100 on the Tories for an outright victory, and won £550.
Regarding Alicia's election, I'll contact my Oxford friends and ask them to vote for her. However, best to keep our powder dry until the full list of candidates is published, I think.

Btw, I want to thank Jennifer Reeser for working the polls toward our goal of Alicia winning a landslide that makes the Tory win look measly.

Remember: we as a group are one or two degrees away from hundreds, if not thousands, of Oxford graduates and a good social media presence can bring in countless other graduates who we don't even know--all in an election that will probably be decided by a handful of votes.
Find friends with big Facebook & Twitter presences, and get them to do the right thing.
It is a campaign now--and time is short.
Sorry for being blunt.

Kudos to Maryann Corbett--who just joined Twitter and tweeted first about the Stallings for Prof campaign.
