New BB Code
Dear Eratosphereans,
I'm pleased to announce that for those of you artistically minded (and just in time for Deck-the-Halls for Sharon's benefit), I've finally managed to code a new BB Code, 'bgi', that will enable the inclusion of background images in posts.
It will use any image you specify as a background within the area framed by the BB code. Its usage is analogous to the 'url' BB code. An example of the code using the Eratosphere image as background is:
Code:
[bgi="http://www.ablemuse.com/erato/images/visioncollison/misc/header.gif"]background image example[/bgi]
.
Which renders as follows:

These details can also be found in the site FAQ function, BB Code section, here.
Cheers,
...Alex

Alex,
Wow. This is certain to have serious consequences for my posts to Michael!
Looks like trouble to me...
Yikes!
But can I change the height, or is that fixed?
Thanks for your work on this!
Bill

Not to mention its utilitarian function. If the poem stinks, we can always say "I really, really like your background".
Just kidding, Alex! I remember the lovely framework Sharon did on the Deck the Halls poems in 2008, wasn't it? It gave the whole a event such a festive air.

This is a test of the emergency hall decking system.
In the event that this had been an actual hall decking,
you would have been notified about where to
read these poems.

Oh my God - the Fitzpatrick Quadruplets! I haven't seen those lovely ladies since they won the first four places in the talent segment in the Miss Lodi Beach competition years back. Four renditions of Lady of Spain on four accordions, in perfect harmony. It was incredible!
(Alex, you may have just give a book of matches to a pyromaniac.)

Michael, let's blame Sharon -- she kept asking me for code ...Be careful what you ask for?
Cheers,

Background Image Sequel -- Non-Repeating
There seems to be interest in a non-repeating version of this BB Code, so, here's one I've just coded to complement the one announced earlier, the BGN code. It works exactly as the BGN code except that the image displays once and doesn't repeat.
Using the same example, with the the Eratosphere image as background, we have:
Code:
[bgn="http://www.ablemuse.com/erato/images/visioncollison/misc/header.gif"]background image example[/bgn]
.
Which renders as follows:
background image example
These details can also be found in the site FAQ function, BB Code section, here.

...Alex

testing....
Three Year Olds
Three year olds are silly things,
they're made of rubberbands and springs.
I'm suprised they don't sprout wings.
They do, in their imaginings.
And it's amazing what they do -
with a little ink or glue.
Now if you tend to get annoyed,
or if you don't like things destroyed
if you're not gainfully employed,
kids are something to avoid.
But if you want a lot of joy
have yourself a girl or boy.
I promise you, I guarantee
they're lots of fun when they are three.
