  Like a Dream
  — Adapted / rendered by Jennifer Reeser

To the Tune of "Like a Dream"
Li Ch'ing Chao

I recall the River Dome at close of day,
so deep in wine we couldn't find the way
back home. Enthusiasm on the wane,
our boat — misled and late — came on a plane
profoundly thick with lotus flower spray.
We fought to pull away, fought to pull away,
startling gulls and egrets from the cay.
