Gilbert received the B.A., M.F.A., and Ph.D. degrees from Cornell University,
where he was a Ford Foundation fellow.  Since 1977 he has lived in South
Carolina and taught at Furman.  The Orchises Press published his third
collection of verse, Commandments at Eleven, in 1994.  Some of his most recent work has appeared in The Cortland Review, Cumberland Poetry Review, The Florida Review, The Georgia Review, Image, Quarterly West and the Southern Review.
