Happy Burns Day!
"Your Critic-folk may cock their nose,
And say, 'How can you e'er propose,
You wha ken hardly verse frae prose,
To make a sang?'
But by your leaves, my learned foes,
Ye're maybe wrang."
Let's raise a glass of scotch to that!!

Oh is it? I didn't know! (Or "ken.")
I'll toast one of my favorite Scottish writers James Kelman, whose novel How Late it Was, How Late is one of my favorite books of all time!
And Burns, of course! And cheers to "The Dark Horse." And my own name. ("Innes" is Scottish--if fake, since my dad was a Jewish refugee who changed his name. But I'm rather fond of it.) And the Cairngorm mountains I used to ski on as a child. And all things Scottish.
Thank ye!

Slainte to you, Charlotte. Getting ready to do "Address to the Haggis", an Immortal Memory, and a Big Ian poem tonight at our last of four Burns Suppers this year. I always avoided skiing -- I felt it would make me go downhill fast.

Lang may your lum reek!
(It took me a while to learn that this sentiment is not obscene).

I just taught Burns (and Henrysoun, Dunbar, border ballads) all day long to the entire sophomore class at Shanley High. I started each class with John's performance of Address to the Haggis. Good singing voice today. What fun. Slainte.

Perhaps we should be more afeared of meeting this man in his cups on the 25th January.
